SSLP- The Wreckers |
My first impressions of SSLP Stand Still Look Pretty- In a word dissapointing. Overproduced, band is too loud and it sounds like they added country instraments to come songs to try and make it more country. Hightlights are Hard To Love & Tennesse, with LMD & LTP my fave other tracks, the rest I can take or leave. Lacks emotion and passion when they sing, and Rain is crap. Few songs are very different than live versions. Way Back home rocks acoustic, dont like album version. For example of lacking passion, listen to Rain & M sings something like cos "I don't think I can take this shit" and it just lacks passion, plus whatever they got her to do with her voice at the start doesnt work, I think they were going for the smokey/hoarsey or they added somthing electronically and it sounds shit. One More Girl the bit where Jess sings "One day, we will all be a pile of ashes" if you have heard the live version of it, she sings with such passion, no passion in this part, the music is over the top and you cant hear the harmonies. It's as if they tried so hard to be country, it didn't work. For 2 girls that have such talent, this doesnt showcase it.
I'm still going to buy the album, still support the 2 wonderful girls and hope as all hell they tour. Don't get me wrong, I love TW. | | |
| She rocks, she is awesome! I only have one photo, but hey it is of me & her so that is awesome! I got up super early (4am) to get a 5am train, headed into the city, it was pitch black, and I ended up sitting in the freezing cold for 3 hours, I saw a beautiful sunrise over the water tho. Anyway, Pink rocks up and got out of the car, acknowledges me dropping my shit all over the place while struggling to get it together so I head over. I ask her how she is doing and ask if I can trouble her for a photo or autpgraph? she goes, "how bout both?" Which was awesome. I didn't take any photos of her while she was 2 feet away from me, cos 1 it would have been right in her face and a bit rude & 2 she was smoking and i didnt want my camera to be taken away if her managment didnt like it. I handed her my I'm Not Dead sleeve and a blue pernament marker and she was having trouble figuring it out how to open it (it was hilarious) and at the same time her minder/manager went to grab my camera off me. He didnt realsie it was attached to my wrist and dropped it on poor pink as she signed my autpgraph! I apologised and she said it was all fine, it was his fault. She grabbed me and hugged me and took a photo, which i wasnt ready for and pink looks a little weird, but I dont care, it is a photo! She was really nice, down to earth, we chatted for a couple of minutes before she had to go inside and perform (which they suck cos it was a closed set and she isn't doing any Melbourne shows!) I can't remember what else we talked about...... just general stuff. I was going to hang around and wait for her to finish so I could ask about an aussie tour & if she was going to play the 2nd single, "Who Knew" cos I bloody love the song and want to hear it live, but it was over an hour since she had walked in, I was really cold, i didn't want to look like a stalker and my friend bribed me with a free brekky! So I headed off, with my photo and my personalised autograph! Oh! when she was signing it, she goes "who's it to?" and i go if you wouldn't mind, Jess. And she goes "oh good, whenever they ask for it blank, i always think another autograph for ebay!" I was like no! I didnt get up at 4am and been here for hours to sell it! And she made a joke with me and I told her to have a nice trip and I think that was all.

She is really cool, prettier in the flesh and really down to earth! And if you haven't heard the album, shame on you! It rocks and Who Knew is one of my fave songs ever.
